Growing up in New Delhi, Inder Singh experienced his first food memories by spending time in the kitchen with his mother as she prepared large meals for his family. Inder used his mother’s use of different spices and father’s passion for food to follow a path that led him to a career in the restaurant industry.
Mr. Singh’s family relocated to New York City in 1978 where his father opened a restaurant in the Flatiron district. In 1984, Inder joined him in an ownership role helping manage the restaurant operations. The experience Inder gained from working with his father helped to nurture a business savvy and knowledge of the restaurant industry that was put to use later when he became a partner at Baluchis in 2008. Shortly after that he went on to open Aangan on Upper West side and in the fall of 2010, became a partner at Devi, the acclaimed Indian restaurant in the Flatiron neighborhood. In November of 2011, Inder parted ways with Baluchis and Devi to focus on his newest project, Benares. Today, he continues to oversee all his restaurants improving on his remarkable 29 year run. Mr. Singh works in partnership with his staff and chefs to ensure well-fed happy diners and smooth restaurant operations.
When not at the restaurants, Inder can be found at the movies or checking out one of New York’s many eateries.
